Drought

I know I thought of at least 3 topics for a post today, but now that my kids are in bed, my mind feels as holey as the "circle cheese" (swiss) that Colin begs for. My brain is as parched for ideas as the land around here.

Its been days since we've had rain in Central Texas. There was a freeze about a month ago. After suffering through heat that lasted into October and November, I thought winter had finally arrived. However, it didn't last. The days are shorter, but not much colder. "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey..." All the vegetation is dead, and we get clouds but no precipitation.

The crisp dead grass makes ideal tinder for wildfires. We've had a lot in the state, some even in our small suburban town (though thankfully none near the house).

However, it might rain on everyone's MLK parade tomorrow. Anna will be home from school, and I'm hoping it will be day of indoor crafts and Uno. Everyone pray/do your rain dance for us.

Here in the desert we haven't had rain in weeks. The BIG advantage being that once you wash your car, it's done for the year.
High of 44 low 22 tonight and they say we may get sleet/snow today. Ruidoso to get 6 inches. Too late for you, too bad!
Come again..........
Oh oh! I just failed to enter the cryptic correctly!

...Here in England we have a dirty shade of grey sky...the Sun will occasionally try to peep through but loses every time...the little daffodil bulbs are shooting up (some have gone back down..too cold) :o) never mind we can all greet people in the Village with "Isn't it cold today?"..it is pitch black outside at 5pm..but one morning Spring will be here either like a Lamb or a Lion..we all need some sunshine in our lives and I must admit I do get envious of you lot in the States! even our Grandson Michael is now at Wichita University..he arrived there last week..I ordered him NOT to meet any girlfriends cos I don't wish any more of my Family to live over there...just being whimsical :o) xx

Yeah, I must admit I do get really envious sometimes when you talk about all the lovely sunshine and warm weather. Today in Runcorn we have drizzle - all day, really grey skies as well. Luke wanted to go to the park and would not stop whining about it so, for the sake of the peace, off we went, running around the big park in wellies and big coats, people must have thought we were mad!! Luke even went on the slide which was soaking wet and ended up with a very soggy bum! I do hope you get some rain soon though Jenn, it can't be much fun for you all.

Oohhhhh, sister of mine -- I just caught up on your blog. It pretended to rain finally in Houston today.

Global warming is not a myth. WTF, you you sound like a Republican or oil exec!?!?!?! Here, read this great new years op-ed peice from the Times; it has scoop on that topic and several other interesting things:

Estefanita, surely you caught the sarcasm in my comment about global warming? From the household with solar panels, wind generators, and soon, a HYBRID vehicle!
