In England they call it a plaster

"Oh, Mommy, that's a bad boo-boo," Anna said. I mowed on Wednesday and got a burst blister on my thumb. "It's bleeding! You need a band-aid."

This is because my children's daily goal is to get a bandaid.

I really hate bandaids on my hands, because I wash them a lot, and then its just soggy and hanging grungily on. "I'll get one when I get to work," I told her.

"Oh, do they have bandaids for women there?" she said.

"What?" I said, "Oh, you mean, like not kid bandaids. Yes." We also have animal ones!

You need to get those Nexcare waterproof band-aids. They rock! You can wash your hands and they stay put. BTW, did they used to use actual plaster on wounds?

Yes, after I got to work I remembered I we have some NEMO nexcare bandages - not for women but they would have worked.

No actual plaster on the wounds, just sticky stuff over the bandage.

I second the support of waterproof bandages. I accidentally used one a couple of weeks ago (I didn't realize we had any) and I just loved it. I'm incessantly washing my hands all day (not OCD, just lots of litterboxes), and a regular bandaid just won't cut it.

As for the burst blister, ow! Such a simple thing but so painful.

In England now,Jenn, we can buy 'plasters' that drop off when the wound is healed and not before!! name of COMPEED..really MAGIC! xxx your security word is getting more and more difficult to read....

Oooooh aunty Norma, never ever seen them - must buy some. I'm ALWAYS WASHING MY HANDS and it drive me insane as they are so dry and keep cracking - v v painful. The only plasters we ever seem to get are those scuzzy ones that drop off after even sniffing water.

Yes,Paula ,and they are marvellous...come in all sizes too.

Paula, if your hands get dry and cracked from too much hand washing, I recommend "Softsoap Antibacterial Plus 2 in 1" soap. You can find it at any grocery store, Target, etc... it's in a pump dispenser that's sort of a peach colour. We use it all the time and never, ever have dry hands, even living in the desert. In contrast, just washing our hands once at a casino using their horrible, harsh soap leaves our hands dry and stinging. We also use waterless hand sanitizer frequently, and it's also easy on the hands, but there are times when only soap will do.

Ah, the band-aid stage. Each of my girls went through a period where they were "plastered" with band-aids as decorations. There was a "Baby Blues" cartoon with Zoe doing that--I'll have to try to find it.

I am forever cutting myself--usually paper cuts at work and bandaids drive me nuts. I like the liquid bandage stuff that's around--it's really good for awkward spots, though it can wear off.
