Phonics, by Colin

Colin is starting to learn his letters, and we try to help him practice in everyday conversations.

"It's about a TRAIN!" he told us, talking about a new DVD Anthony got for Rail Fans.

"Right! What letter does TRAIN start with?" Anthony asked him.

"C-H," Colin said.

We laughed, so he guessed, "S-H!"

"No," I said, "Tuh, Tuh, TRAIN! It's a T."

"No!" said Colin. "CHRain! C-H!" He would not be convinced otherwise.

He wanted to watch the chrains so badly, we let him watch the DVD for 10 minutes after his bath instead of his bedtime story. Apparently he didn't fully understand the full ramifications of this trade. I've never seen him so indignant as he was tonight, crying in his bed.

"I want TWO ATTITUDES!" he wailed. "I want a video and a book. I want two atti-tuuuuuuuuudes!"
Clearly he's also not completely understanding what we mean when we say we don't like his attitude and want him to change it.

I can't tell you how many times I've tried to insist that something is said one way but Cole won't be swayed. It is frustratingly funny. I have only two words to say to this "Juice Box"!!!

Yes...I too love "Chrains". :)

That's a great story! I miss you guys! I hope all is going well! I saw Anna lost her first tooth! Go Anna! I'm jealous, I didn't get anything for my wisdom teeth and that was extremely painful. I think I need to talk to the Tooth Fairy...

:)

So funny! I'll be very sad when Lyra stops saying "Lellow" for yellow.

I'm sure Colin thinks he's the expert on Trains in the family, so he would know best how it's spelled.

LOVE the two 'tudes!

Just sorted it Aunty Norma!!!! Back on today.
Luke is learning letters at big school, first one's are a and t. Got some really cool fridge magnets from the stationery store that are all the first 45 words that reception kids have to learn. Luke is really loving them ... correction Luke is really loving throwing them around the kitchen. Yay for Colin and his Chrains I reckon it is better than "trains" as it combines the "choo choo". XX

trains cannot be considered an indulgence for some. they are a necessity. my brother and i had a record that came with a book about trains (we liked the pictures of all the wrecks and boiler explosions.), there were a couple of tracks of these giants rumbling by or leaving a station: we'd play them over and over and over and over; it would drive my poor mom mad: so much so she decided it was time to go back to work. the first time i heard an actual steam engine pass by was on town lake (now ladybird lake) last year with the girls. the rumble and the steam whistle was enough to make me well up ... even now. trains are really neat-o....

just be glad you don't live less than a mile from some tracks: squishing pennies is a blast, too....
