Screaming and Dreaming

My work was pretty good today, but ended with an old dog with some problems, unfortunately accompanied by a screaming 3 year old. His mother had no control over her child. I briefly explained my estimate and told her I would call her when I got the lab work back. I figured then it would be calmer and we could talk more about the plan.

However, she kept asking me questions, even though her son was clearly at the end of his rope and was now shrieking in her arms. I'm pretty sure she couldn't hear my answers. My ears were ringing.

As I left the room, my coworkers said, "Whoa! Sounds like you need a margarita! How about La Posada?"

I had to decline. "I have to rush home to go to the Hot Dog Social." Laughs all around. It sounds so quaint and fun, and it was. But sadly, not a margarita in sight.

That's a new one, a "Hot Dog Social". I hope you have a drink afterwards, anyway!

Hot Dogs go well with beer...

It's strange that some parents don't seem to deal with their child's behavior, as if ignoring it makes it go away.

I can so relate to this post. I'm a vet tech and have had this happen to me more than once. One day a 2 year old was having a deafening, screaming, flailing tantrum in the exam room. As I was bending over their dog on the floor, a toy metal jeep came within centimeters of my head. It crashed into the exam table and left a dent! The response from mom?--"Looks like someone needs to be held." The little darling got a nice cuddle out of it! Talk about needing a margarita...I may need to store a blender in the lab for days like that. haha

Ok, you DO need to move to our neighborhood - we ALWAYS have cocktails when we get together! And we get together pretty often...

You know, I've seen that too, but we don't usually see kids at vet clinic. The grocery store is where I see it most often. Maybe that's b/c we always go to the vet on Saturday. But I can see how that would happen, given that there are always owners who reward bad behavior from the DOGS by petting them and cuddling them... they probably give the same misguided rewards to their kids!

I went to a "Ice Cream Social" tonight! I too hate when people ignore the screaming, what are they thinking?
