Farmers' Market Haul

Arranged for me by Anna.

We haven't been to the market much this summer, since I work half the Saturdays, and we were gone other weekends, and for the remaining few, well, I just couldn't bear the heat. I feel bad for the farmers, out there in the heat for hours. I made up for it this weekend by buying LOTS.

French Melon (smells like oranges!)
Crispy, ugly, but delicious pears
Heirloom eggplants
Baby squash (so cute Colin has to have 'em)
Striped zucchini
Large round zucchini
Heirloom garlic
Tomatoes!

Also purchased but not pictured:

Berkshire pork
Grassfed beef
Round Rock Honey
Texas Olive Ranch EVOO
2 Chelsea buns, 4 scones, and 2 mini quiches from the English baker

Hooray for eating locally!

I'm glad you posted about your groceries. I can't seem to be bothered with it anymore. I, too, feel sorry for those farmers! Is anything growing in your garden right now?

Lisa- we have peppers, loads of basil, really strong arugula - tastes great, but needs to be on a salad or cut with other mild lettuces, as it is TOO much on its own (like a strong raw onion is too much on its own).

Also, on my jog this morning found a neighbor selling ugly hard pears, so I'll go back and get a box for $3!
