Regarding my profile photo

12:25 am

"Subject: hope your okay

when i think back, you always had a drink in your hand. I think someone should say something to you about your problem and I hope our friendship isnt hurt by this. I just want the best for you and want you to know that this is being said out of love--I think you need an intervention ;) If you really do have a drinking problem please disregard this note
."

This was in my inbox to greet me this morning, thanks to my new pal Facebook. It was sent to me by one of my vet school classmates. This is a person who has not friended me on FB. We were not really even friends in vet school, just friendly acquaintances. When I think back, the only time I ever saw him outside of school, we both had a beer in our hands.

Apparently he saw my profile pic on a mutual friend's site and felt motivated to send me this note, complete with terrible grammar, punctuation, and a ;) And I believe he meant for the last sentence to read "if you don't have a drinking problem disregard..."

Someone who doesn't know me now, didn't really know me 13 years ago, and hasn't talked to me since feels I need this message? Consider yourself disregarded.

New profile pic, showing my addiction to hot chocolate.

that is sad and pathetic-you CLEARLY do not have a problem. Poor guy.

He has no idea how fun you are to drink with.

wow. if that is the standard by which he assumes you have a drinking problem - then ALL vet students are drunks. and i mean ALL of them.

..!!!! the cheeky sod!! how dare he! A.Norma.x

What a hoot. Perhaps if you really did have a problem, a note like that would be JUST THE THING to snap you out of it. Cold impersonal and judgmental notes from people who haven't contacted you in years are always good for motivating you to change your life.

I've been thinking about what would motivate someone who is essentially a stranger to make such a comment... and I can only think of one thing: he has a drinking problem and is hyper-sensitive to photos of people holding a drink in their hand. I feel sorry for him. I don't think he's projecting (yep, that's my professional clinical assessment), but I bet he needed someone to say that to him.

LOL! Whatever. Glad you blew him off.

Wow...how odd. I'm glad you disregarded him. I do like the new photo! Mmm - chocolate.

I kept rereading that last sentence of his note trying to 'get it' if it was supposed to be funny or make sense. Guess I should have kept reading your entry.

I love your happy-new-years-drink-in-hand pic! I watched a wild NO RESERVATIONS today while ironing. Paris! Now there's a place for drinking. Red wine at breakfast even! If you were bleary-eyed with Absinthe and running naked in the yard, maybe we'd worry. What a tiresome person to fb you something like that over a lovely celebratory photo.

Hey, guys, thanks for all the nice comments. Cheeky sod, indeed! Laura, yes I thought maybe he was projecting, too. Either he has a problem or has a close friend/relative with a problem. HIS photo has him in a close side hug with his wife. Wonder what that means about him?!?

See...I read that as being a sarcastic ha ha type of comment. The last line was supposed to be funny *at least the way I read it* Like if you really do have a drinking problem, then this really isn't funny as intended. But of course that was just my take on it before I read any of your comments or anyone else's.

I have to agree with previous comment....I took the note as a joke. It seems like he is totally kidding, and the last sentence is the punch line. The ;) gives it away. "If you really do have a drinking problem, disregard this note." It's possible he was just trying to make a connection with an old acquaintance, and thought it would be humorous to do it this way---which obviously didn't work. It really doesn't make any sense otherwise.

If dude was trying to be funny, he screwed up. I thought the comment left by peevish was hilarious, though! I bet you're a load of fun when you've got a couple of glasses of wine in.

Chillax, I think it is totally a joke. Maybe you just needed a little drinky before reading it. And... you did give birth to two kiddos without fetal alcohol syndrome so you can't be that bad can you?? Is your hot cocoa spiked too? If so, I'm coming over to share. Tracy

I'm often photographed with cats, and yes, I DO have a problem.
