I Voted

Yesterday I took Anna and Colin with me for early voting. There was much campaigning for my vote from the backseat.

"Vote for the girl!"
"Vote for the boy!"
"Vote for the girl!"
"Vote for the boy!"

Anna said, "Mommy, all the other presidents have been men. Vote for the girl!"

I said, "Yes, but all the other presidents have been white men. This time a black man could be president."

Anna said, "OK! Vote for the black boy!"

I said, "Well, just voting for someone because they are a boy or girl - or because they are black or white - is not a good reason to pick a president. You should vote for the one you think will do the best job."

So that's what I did. As much as I'd love to see a woman be president (and I think Hillary would do a good job), I think Obama is the better candidate. Whomever wins the nomination, at least it will be a better choice than last time. And, whomever wins the general election, it will be a better choice than last time!

Amen, sister. Sadly, whoever wins will really be the biggest loser, because they will have a giant mess to clean up. Actually, several of them. But it is nice to have choices which aren't so repellant.

With our crummy electoral college process, I was so tired of my vote in Texas not really counting. I'm glad to be in a city and state that is much more Democratic!
(love the "vote for the boy/girl" back-and-forth. I can totally see them doing that!)

It is funny how our children become involved in the politics of their parents...just the other day we were discussing at the dinner table the Obama ad that said something to the effect of "there are CEO's in this country who make more in 10 min then most of their employees make in a year...I'm going to change that" I commented that he did not mention that Oparah and many sports stars make more than those CEO's...this lead to a discussion about the book Animal Farm, Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism...needless to say Joe and I will be voting for the old white man who (like our fathers) spent his youth protecting our freedom in the line of fire.

It is great that the kids already have opinions. They are probably more aware than some adults.

Well you certainly stirred things up. I'm abstaining. Don't like any of 'em. Would have gone for Fred or Mitt.

Amen, Sister! Tough job ahead of them, though. Let's have a big party when Bush leaves office!
